Below is a scan of a letter received by Dad in May of 1945 , soon after his return from captivity. The sender is John Meares who Dad helped escape whist at Chieti.
Dad was put in 'clink' ie the camp prison within a prison on Sept 25th for his efforts.
A detailed account of the escape is written in Brian Lett's book An Extraordinary Italian Imprisonment.
The escape entailed Capt Meares getting beneath the vegetable lorry that regularly brought supplies to the camp. Dad being the senior NCO in charge of the kitchen presumably made sure appropriate blind eyes were turned and distractions made.
In the letter there is mention of ' trying to find out (the) form in W.O ( War Office ) re noting your work in Chieti '
Taking into account other references in the diary I am inclined to think that 'your work' doesn't refer to the escape but rather Dad's efforts to ensure the best use of the rations that they had to provide as good a diet as possible.

Not the most glamorous of occupations etc but a crucial element in ensuring the health and wellbeing of the POWS
